month old son and was booked in straight away staff were lovely. I waited an hour and was triaged by nurses which was fine. However I was then told I had to go to urgent care and had to be booked in again to be told by a very rude receptionist that the wait time was 6 hours. When I asked if this was for children too the response I had was ‘yes even for children you do not have to wait if you don’t want to’. Obviously I needed to wait because my 5 month old baby needed to be seen… I wouldn’t of been there if I didn’t need to be. The wait turned out to be about 4.5. I feel there should be a separate waiting area and doctors for paediatrics as it is not appropriate to have children waiting in with adults and being on the same list as adult patients. Furthermore, when we eventually saw the doctor I explained to him why we were there. He didn’t look at my babies chest where I said the rash also was- he was only interested in looking at his face so he didn’t have to move off his chair. He then ‘diagnosed’ him with impetigo within a few seconds without really looking and gave me 2 forms of antibiotics (the topical one which I explained my baby had already had and it didn’t help and in fact made him worse) and an oral one. I did also have a GP appointment with a dermatologist for the following day (the same day by the time we were seen). The dr at UTC told me to cancel this appointment it was not needed. However I went with my gut as a mom and still took my baby and surprisingly, it wasn’t impetigo at all and was something completely different which needed completely different treatment. Luckily I didn’t give my baby the antibiotics the dr had told me to and luckily I didn’t as it could’ve had adverse effects on my baby. Shocking service. Rude receptionist and a doctor that was not caring!
to the urgent treatment centre the staff were friendly, they placed us in a dark room as my son couldn’t tolerate the light, was seen by a lively triage nurse who gave my son calpol to help with his head pain, even tho there was a wait due to the volume of patients, could not fault the service, the doctor was great my with son and checked him over throughly.
