years ago now. She was suffering from terrible anxiety, depression and on the verge of becoming anorexic at the time. Unlike other families we did not have to wait too long till she saw her first counsellor but this lady left after only two appointments and my daughter then remained with another counsellor for about a year and a half. Tried to treat for her eating disorder and prescribed anti depressants but never got to the bottom of what was really causing these issues. Unfortunately my daughter never really connected with her counsellor and frankly disengaged with the service.
Feeling 'shocked' came much later (two years ago) when I read a statement by the first counsellor in a report. I remember going to Camhs with my daughter for her first appointment and feeling so worried and anxious because of what she was going through but a 'counsellor in mental health' described those feelings as I being "cagey and avoidant".. "Avoidant" of what exactly has never been explained to me. Totally wrong and unprofessional comment to make after only meeting me for a very short time.
I would recommend parents in a similar situation to try and get help for their child privately.
